CENTURY GRANITE PIONEERS NEW ETCHING PROCESS
Imagine all of the possibilities that would open up if it were possible to etch a clear image on Elberton blue-gray granite, even on a steeled finish. Imagine what it would be like to apply color to a monument permanently, in a way that would not fade, flake, or deteriorate over time.
Century Granite Company has been doing more than imagining it, they've been selling it. Century is making the most of a new etching process developed by Elberton-area firm, Imperial Etching.
The process is technically called vitrification, commonly called "glassification". The technique itself is largely a trade secret, held closely by Imperial Etching. In general terms, after a high-temperature laser melts the silica in the granite into something like volcanic obsidian glass, a special pigment is applied. After the pigment is applied, a proprietary chemical sealer - a sprayed "molecular glass" - is applied. The combination process combats ultraviolet light, oxidation, water and acid rain, all in multiple layers of glass. According to Imperial Etching, the etching and color is the longest lasting, time-defying process available..
We are very excited about the opportunities afforded by the new Glass Art etching process. Our sales representatives will be happy to fill you in on all of the details and answer any questions that you may have. Call or e-mail today!
